Parting die forging (including multi - directional die forging) is an advanced less cutting technology, which has a wide range of applications. Cold, hot or warm billets can be carried out. Parting die forging is not only suitable for forging high alloy steel and its alloys, but also for forging ordinary carbon steel and non-ferrous metal and its alloys. It can forge not only complex large hollow parts, but also many medium and small forgings in automobile, tractor and other industries. Such as universal crosshead, universal joint fork, universal shaft flange, rear axle differential cross shaft, three-way joint, steering wheel worm, gear and various pipe joints and so on.
When parting die forging, metal deforms in the separable concave die, and the opening force of the concave die plays a role. Therefore, it needs to be offset by clamping force (also known as die force). If the clamping force is insufficient, the concave die will be separated, resulting in flapping of the forging on the parting surface, which not only affects the quality of the product, but also accelerates the wear of the die. Too much clamping force, however, wastes energy.
In the early stage of the development of parting die forging technology, it is generally used in ordinary mechanical press or hydraulic press and other general equipment with the action of clamping force can be divided concave die. Although this method is more economical, the clamping force produced by tower spring or cylindrical spring is too small to ensure the close closure of the mold. However, the mechanical - lever mechanism, compressed air structure and pneumatic - hydraulic structure are more complex and bulky. All the moulds with these compacting mechanisms have the disadvantages of poor rigidity and large elastic deformation, and are not reliable, and often occur mold opening phenomenon.
In order to ensure the success of parting die forging production, it is necessary to understand the forming principle of parting die forging, master how to determine the clamping force and the way of adding force. In addition, according to the technology of the parts and the characteristics of the press, we should correctly design the segmentation form and mode of the concave die, rationally select the buffer structure, determine the number and distribution of the mandrel, so that the structure of the parting die is simple and the die can be closed reliably.
